Meena Kayastha
Sculptor, Kathmandu
Meena Kayastha is a visual artist with Bachelor’s degree specializing in sculpture from Kathmandu University, Centre for art and design, Kathmandu in 2007. She finished her IFA from the Sirjana College of Arts.
Meena did two of her important shows at the Siddartha Art Gallery in 2011 and 2016, both of her shows were key for her to establish herself as a Junk Artist. She has done other group shows both nationally and internationally.
She says “I believe in the beauty of discarded objects. I stand against all odds and use my personal style of using debris and junk in order to express my creativity. I believe that beautiful things do not ask for attention and wants to spread the awareness of observing stories in things that are almost obsolete in our lives. Nothing is useless, everything has purpose and my aim is to show people that immortality is possible for artists if they believe in their work enough. Art is timeless and what better way to prove it than use things that are considered waste and useless.”
