Painting the figure was a personal challenge. Of course, I learned how to render and interpret the figure during my university studies, but I never chose to include them in my artworks. When I found my work in something of a rut, I began a period of self-reflection. While honesty was and is a key to my belief system, I was not being totally authentic. With the male nude, I confronted myself. By giving credence to cultural bias and prejudice I veiled the depth and expression of my own truths. Aspects of saints and deities are comprehensive manifestations of humanity, including the implicit sexuality in gods and humans. The subjects for the images were chosen with a greatest respect.
