Scott Emmons (USA)
Visual Artist
An academic professional and perpetual student, I took up the study of art in midlife as a challenging and fulfilling new activity. I studied life drawing and painting with Minerva Durham at Spring Studio and Crosby Studio in New York, and have taken painting and drawing classes with artist Karen Kaapcke and at the Teaching Studios of Art. My work has been exhibited at Spring Studio, Crosby Studio, and at the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art.

In drawing the figure with simple media we are engaging in an ancient enterprise with a universal aim, to evoke in the viewer a feeling. In the case of the nude figure, an enormous range of feelings is possible—from down-to-earth to transporting. At a minimum there needs to be a recognition on the part of the viewer of the presence, in the work, of another. It is of the utmost challenge for a third individual engaged in this venture, the artist, to achieve an elusive and profound three-way connection.
