A graduate from the Colombo Medical Faculty, Dr. Shanaka Kulatunga, born in 1981, is a soul who is on a journey of artistic expression. A past student of the Vibhavi Academy of Fine Arts in Sri Lanka, Shanaka received training from renowned artist Prof. Chandraguptha Thenuwara. His main interest is for portraiture and figurative art where he finds his models for paintings from day to day life depicting their lifestyle and characters.

His accomplishments to date include the accolade in the professional category of the ‘SPECULO’ Art Exhibition organized by the Sri Lankan Airlines in 2017 and achieved appreciations in the State Arts and Sculpture Festival in the same year in the portrait Category. His work has thus far been part of many group exhibitions, including the annual Sri Lankan Art exhibition organized by the George Keyt Foundation.

Based on the themes of struggles, dreams, and emotions, Shanaka had his first solo exhibition in 2017 with works that have been inspired from people he has encountered in his day to day life. He was invited to represent Sri Lanka to the International Exhibition of works by Artists for peace Shanghai Cooperation Bishkek Summit 2019 in Kyrgyzstan and participated in the China-Ningxia Cultural I Artist exchange programme in 2018. His works are displayed in the Ceylon Dutch Burger heritage Exhibition – Sydney, Australia 2019 and in the upcoming years in main cities.
