Wilton de Oliveira is 31 years old and is an artist from São Paulo, Brazil. He has a degree in materials engineering and is currently studying architecture and urbanism at the Federal University of Bahia, in Brazil. He is an independent and self-taught visual artist. His works are mainly focused on portraying the daily lives of men, using charcoal material on paper. In December of this year, he started a crowdfunding campaign through the @catarse platform (instagram) to publish his first artbook with the portrait of the 85 men, accompanied by the central question “for you, what does it mean to be a man?”.

This work is part of a collection entitled “men in charcoal”. In total there are 85 portraits made with compressed and vine charcoal. The aim of these drawings is to discuss the different masculinities and the diversity of the male bodies. In addition, they seek to provoke a debate about conservatism through nudity.
